The Syrian Investigative Reporting for Accountability Journalism (SIRAJ) collaborated with Lighthouse Reports, Reporters United, DER SPIEGEL, and El Pais as a cross-border journalistic team to uncover the human trafficking network behind the June 14 boat tragedy in Greece.
On June 14, a boat carrying 750 migrants sank. The Greek Coast Guard arrived 3 hours before the boat capsized. Still only 104 people survived. “We know who helped us and who drowned us,” said one Syrian survivor. Reconstruction of a tragedy that could have been avoided.
