(Berlin, Germany) – Hostwriter:

1 August 2019 – In an effort to broaden its value for non-English speaking journalists, Hostwriter has added new message boards for members who feel more comfortable communicating in Arabic or Spanish. Other languages will be added in the future.

The message boards are part of Hostwriter’s HostWIRE chatroom, where journalists can interact quickly and easily with other Hostwriter members, enabling them to find co-authors for cross-border collaborations and to share journalism knowledge and resources, calls for grant applications, requests for advice, opportunities for collaboration and tools for journalists.

Hostwriter CEO and co-founder Tabea Grzeszyk says, “In a survey of our members last year, they told us they wanted ways for non-native English speakers to interact more easily. We feel that language should never be a barrier that prevents journalists from collaborating with each other! Offering boards in Spanish and Arabic is a first step to enable more cross-border collaboration and exchange to journalists who don’t feel as comfortable communicating in English.”

The Spanish-language message board is managed by Hostwriter Ambassador Mariana Delgado Barón, a Colombian journalist with a PhD in sociology. The Arabic-language message board is a collaboration between Hostwriter and the Syrian Investigations Unit, SIRAJ, that was founded by Hostwriter Ambassador Mohammad Bassiki.
